What Approvals And Permits Do You Need? In any major kitchen remodeling where the kitchen is entirely "gutted" and you're going to start from scratch, you will need to have a set of construction plans to submit for obtaining city permits. But, if it's just a simple re-facing, or refinishing of existing cabinets where no new plumbing or electrical work is to be performed; you don't need permits.
